The Makeup Addict Tag

Although this isn’t at all supposed to be a personal blog, a non-stop onslaught of product review after product review can be a little bit overwhelming, I think. I’d like to inject a dose of humanity in today’s post in order to prove that it is a human writing this post and not a Skynet robot. What better way to do so than to do a beauty tag?

When in doubt; do a survey.

1. Do you remember your first makeup item?

The first makeup item I ever owned was a black pencil eyeliner by Avon which my mother bought for me when I was about 12. I wasn’t really into makeup at all, I just got it because the Emo Gods told me to. Anyway, when I think back upon that eyeliner it was actually pretty good– creamy and smooth as hell. Although it might have had a bit of a smudging problem, but then if you’re into imperfect smokey eyes then that might not be much of an issue.

2. What kind of coverage do you prefer from foundation?

Sheer coverage only. Even at my lowest point acne-wise, I never saw the appeal of full coverage foundation, especially in Malaysian weather. I mean you can always see it just sitting there (the worst thing is when it gets all powdery and patchy in the humidity).

The purpose of foundation, to me, is for evening out any redness and blotchiness in your skin tone and providing a nice glow. It doesn’t need to be able to cover up pimples or dark circles– that’s what concealer is for.

3. Favorite high-end brand?

I’ve never tried any high-end brands… although I am dying to. The most ‘expensive’ makeup item I own is probably my Naked palette so uh… yeah… get on my level, I guess. FSLV54MG5KP9VIA.MEDIUM.jpg

4. What cosmetic brands have you always wanted to try but still haven’t?

Too damn many is my answer. Chanel is one– I’d really love to try their Bronze Universal as well as their lipstick in the shade ‘Boy’ (not because the colour looks all that great… but simply because I like that name). Also, the This Works Perfect Look Skin Miracle which was CONSTANTLY on sale at like 50% off (making it around the RM60+ mark) back in the day when Sephora.my was still Luxola. I was ALWAYS putting it into my cart then changing my mind. Now it’s at RM160 and it’s NOT BUDGING.

5. Favorite drugstore brand?

Innisfree. Even though it’s not really sold in drugstores. Their translucent powder is the GOAT. Other than that I love pretty much all the Japanese drugstore brands that are sold in Sasa… I’ve mentioned it about a trillion other times but the Kiss Me Heroine Make Long & Curl Mascara is the shit! I’m CONSTANTLY trying to convert people to it but people NEVER LISTEN. STAY wasting your money on Benetarte Faced They’re Better Than Real Amazonian Sex mascara.

Me preaching the merits of Kiss Me mascara to an unappreciative audience.

6. Do you wear fake lashes?

Nope. Fake lashes are for people who haven’t discovered Kiss Me mascara.

7. Is there any kind of makeup you can’t leave the house without?

Destiny’s Child did NOT sing ‘Independent Woman’ for me to be unable to leave the house without makeup. But if I had to choose, I’d go with eyebrow pencil. Any makeup without eyebrows just looks horrible to me. Like just not wearing any makeup at all would be better than wearing, like, eyeliner without eyebrows. 25a1033830f501fdec67635b4cc14281.jpg It is very the makcik. (obviously this is an old picture and Miss Adele now shits on everyone else, makeup-wise and album sales-wise)

8. What is your most cherished makeup product?

NOW THAT YOU ACTUALLY ASK ME, I don’t think I have a most cherished! Obviously I have some makeup which I like A LOT, but ‘most cherished’ to me indicates that not only do I love that product but I also have an emotional attachment to it… If you asked me what my ‘least cherished’ was, then I’d have a lot to say tho.

9. Do you utilize coupons, rewards cards, and sales when you shop for cosmetics?

Babe I don’t buy anything online without googling for coupon codes first.

10. What type of product do you buy the most of?

Lipstick. Ofc. But other than that, probably foundation since skin makeup is my favorite kind of makeup. I’ve only recently noticed that I actually have very few blushers so I’m trying to overcome that.

11. Do you like colorful shades of makeup (lipstick, blush, etc.) or neutral ones?

I like colourful, bold lipstick but wouldn’t say the same for blush but then I’m not all that into blush in general. I can’t say I like colourful eyeshadows, however. I feel like you have to adjust your entire look, including outfit and hair, to pull of super-colourful dramatic eyes. It just doesn’t fit into my #aesthetic.

12. What is your favorite eyeshadow color?

Literally brown. But I prefer the brown to be more on the darker, bronzey side. Detest taupe eyeshadow, ESPECIALLY if it’s shimmery.

13. Is there a brand that you absolutely can’t stand?

Tarte, lol

14. Do you like trying new skincare products or do you keep a certain routine?

Both! I keep a five-product skincare routine (two cleansers, lotion, serum, moisturiser… and a sleeping mask for night time) and there are some products that totally work for me and I will not change (Sebamed Face & Body cleanser, Innisfree Green Tea Seed Serum, Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel) but if a product is just ‘good’ but isn’t life changing then I’ll probably switch it up to something else at some point. Right now I’m thinking of changing my Hada Labo Hyaluronic Acid Lotion to something else.

15. Favorite bath and body brand?

Not into bath and body stuff. I mean I use lotion but most of the drugstore stuff is pretty damn good I guess (currently using St. Ives Vitamin E whatever lotion…). The only time I was truly INTERESTED in bath and body stuff was with the Kiehl’s Creme de Corps lotion but then I actually went to the store and smelt it and… well… nvm.

16. If you could only buy from one brand, which brand would you choose?

Probably something like MAC or Bobbi Brown. Something with classic packaging and a wide selection and doesn’t hop on trends too much. I don’t know. I feel like one day our grandkids are going to look at the makeup products of today and snicker at the packaging.

Why’s everything so pointy?

17. What brand do you think has the best packaging?

I like Glossier’s packaging. It’s trendy, for sure, but it’s the kind of trendy that I like and I’d much rather my stuff be ‘dull’ and understated than… s1749878-main-zoom.jpg

18. Which celebrity always has great makeup?

Every Malaysian celebrity.

19. Do you belong to any online makeup communities?

Negative.

20. Five favorite beauty/lifestyle influencers?

Every British youtuber. God I LOVE THEM. I  don’t care that every product is shilled and they get discounts to shop at Whistles and Asos probably pays them to do hauls (how are you gonna use $76 Chantecaille foundation yet wear Asos, girl?), as LONG as they wear ankle boots and make overdramatic Get Ready With Me videos, I will love them.

My favourite is when they all simultaneously start ‘loving’ the same product and break out into a super-detailed mini-speech about the beneficial ingredients of their favourite new setting spray or whatever… It sounds like I’m hating but I’m really not! I love these girls, they all have my follow!

21. Do you like multifunctional products like lip and cheek stains?

My first favourite product ever was The Body Shop Lip & Cheek stain, in fact! My 17 year old broke ass self couldn’t afford the Benetint so I got the closest dupe. Anyway, I don’t have anything against multifunctional products but I have a tendency to delegate them to only one function so yeah.

22. Are you clumsy while putting on makeup?

I mean I’d say I’m pretty good at doing a cat eye, so the answer is probably nope.

23. Do you use makeup base/primer for the eyes?

Yeah, and I’ve only ever tried two: the Urban Decay Primer Potion and the NYX Eyeshadow base 2216079.jpeg. The NYX one is better tbh.

24. What do you love about makeup?

Makeup is art and I love art and the Koons is me. No, I’m kidding. There’s nothing artistic about the makeup I do on myself. Honestly, I’m an uptight person and makeup gives me at least a semblance of control over this crazy world. Like, no, how can I be arrested for speeding if my eyelashes look good? Bad things don’t happen to people with great makeup! Plus makeup’s an easy way to make friends.
