Pretty. Odd

P7260023.jpg

A friend of mine (he’s a boy) has been telling me about a brand called Pretty Suci and how interesting it is. It claims to be halal and wudhu friendly, which you can check out more of on their website here. Perfect for anyone who doesn’t need the hassle of wondering whether or not their makeup is in the way when performing solat.

Since we here at MyLS are all about supporting local brands, I thought I’d give Pretty Suci a try. And did my friend come through or what– he got me this huge, pretty pink box just FULL of Pretty Suci lipsticks. As you can see, the presentation of the brand is A+.

My Passport Stamp: London, England

20160716_095846.jpg

A couple of days ago I landed back in Kuala Lumpur after a week of touring the United Kingdom. I would’ve stayed there slightly longer than a week but because of work commitment, I spent a good seven nights there – which isn’t bad at all!

This isn’t my first time in the UK – but this one’s a trip I’d never forget. We were supposed to go to Paris, France as well but because of the recent bombings, at the end of the day all of us decided against it. So Wales became our second destination next to England.

The trip was well – shopping, halal food hunting….you know the usual. But as a hardcore makeup lover, I allocated a certain amount of money to dedicate to the thing that I love the most – makeup!

Unlike circle lenses, I don’t regret buying the Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner.

P7220011.jpg

Dolly Wink is a brand that I associate with my embarrassing circle lens phase. Now, I have been through at least fifty embarrassing ‘phases’ throughout my life but the stage of my life where I wore colourful circle lenses is the one that makes me cringe the most (and that is A LOT coming from someone who went through a ‘socialist’ phase… heavy emphasis on the quotation marks). I had these green ones that I wore ALL THE TIME, thinking I was hot shit. Unfortunately for me my roommate wore them as well so I didn’t have anyone to tell me how dumb I looked. We used to sit around circlejerking about how GREAT circle lenses are, and how ugly our natural eyes looked without them.

Anywho, Dolly Wink came to Malaysia around that time. Actually, there was a whole flurry of Japanese brands landing on our shores at the time. A lot of them (like Candy Doll, which to me always came off like Dolly Wink’s hick cousin) appear to have been discontinued tho. But Dolly Wink has stuck around! And so, years after I got over my eye infection-inducing Japanese phase, I decided to give Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner a try.

Social media made me do it!

P7170006.jpg

The Nivea Men’s Post Shave Balm is some pretty hyped up stuff.

I wouldn’t get into the history of how this men’s product started getting touted as this amazing makeup primer since I’m sure we’ve all heard it. I always saw people making preorders to buy this from overseas and stuff, so I assumed that we didn’t have it in Malaysia. But it turns out that we actually do (I got mine at Giant, but I’ll bet it’s at all the pharmacies as well. Make sure to look for it in the men’s section), but only the regular version and not the one for sensitive skin.

I’m not one for impulsive purchases but since I was in the middle of finals and was in desperate need for a pick me up, I decided to give it a try.

Cheap thrills with Elianto.

P7140004.jpg

When I hear the word Elianto, the first thing that comes to mind would be a green stall, or a green shop; although with some decent products in their line, still have that hidup segan mati tak mahu vibe. The store, not their products.

To my surprise, that isn’t how some of their stores are anymore. The one I visited recently was at Setia City Mall, and it looks like they’re rebranding and changing the brand’s vibes. Of course, one look at their new black-and-white stores and you’ll think: ‘Sephora’. But nevertheless, it’s a welcome change and it did attract me to pop in and have a look at some of their products.

A Quick One, While It’s Eid

P6100022.jpgScented candles make a nice touch for any open house.

Today marks the first day of Eid-ul-fitr for 2016 (or more commonly known as ‘Aidilfitri’ in Malaysia… or just ‘Raya’!). The first few days of Raya will usually be spent with the immediate family, but after a couple of days that’s when we’ll start to see the onslaught of open houses left and right.

Raya is supposed to be all about spending time with loved ones and feeling grateful for what we already have, but… you know, what’s a major holiday without a little bit of consumerism? At least today we’ll be supporting local– meet Lilin + Co scented soy candles!

Get your glow on with the 3CE Shimmer Stick.

P7030021.jpg

A while back, MyLS Girl Eikha Zulkefli who currently resides in South Korea did mention that sticks are coming into fashion. Shimmer sticks are not excluded in her prediction of course – and was she right!

Shimmer sticks, or more popularly known as highlighting sticks are slowly taking over the makeup universe. Plenty of brands are coming up with their own versions and I think it is safe to say that the whole trend, originated from  South Korea although a year back I did use Benefit’s Watt’s Up. But does that count as a ‘stick’? I’m not too sure…

Anyhoo!

Clinique vs NYX: Is this even a fair battle? You’d be surprised!

P6220053.JPG

10 years ago who knew how important eyebrows would become in our lives today? Well for me, anyway. When I was sixteen I never did anything with the two, naturally thin lines above my eyes that I call “eyebrows”. First of all, I didn’t know how to…and second of all, I thought I was naturally ‘gifted’ because thin brows were in by then so my brows I thought, were ‘in’!

I started drawing them on when I was 18 – and it was using a black In2it eyebrow pencil I stole from my younger sister. It wouldn’t even be considered drawing on eyebrows because I literally drew a tail at the end of my two brows (my eyebrows are sadly, only halfway given – from the start to the middle and that’s basically it!) and call it a day.

Lo and behold, it’s a L’Oreal cushion blush!

P6090016.jpg

So recently during one of my very frequent visits to Watsons, I happened to stumble upon the L’oreal Lucent Magique Cushion Blush. At first my reaction towards the product was just “meh” but then when I swatched it on my hand, I could hear the angels singing from seventh heaven.

Is this it? Have I found my new drugstore HG?

Lancôme shakes it up.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The Lancome Juicy Shakers are actually something that I’ve been patiently waiting to arrive in Malaysia, ever since I saw some makeup artists posting about them on Instagram. It ended up taking some time but the second I saw the posters of Lily Collins come up, I had to snap some up.

First things first, the packaging is really gimmicky. Let’s just get that out of the way. But you know what? I don’t see the problem with caving in to gimmicks once in a while and as far as I’m concerned, this is at least a cute, creative gimmick. The cocktail shaker design reminds me of products from the 1950s when they used to have lipsticks and powder compacts designed to look like pianos and seashells. Maybe I wouldn’t want all my lipsticks to be shaped like something or other but cosmetics– just like mobile phones– have been getting way too homogenous lately. I’m glad Lancome decided to shake it up a bit!
