Bright eyes with NYX Vivid Brights.

One of the things I’ve always struggled with is incorporating more colour into my makeup looks. Now, I obviously don’t have much of a problem with wearing bright colours on my lips and cheeks (actually, I’ll wear ANY shade on my lips– I ain’t afraid) but I’ve always struggled with getting any colour on my eyes.

This is mostly due to the fact that I have tiny eyelids, therefore getting to be adventurous with my eyeshadow is out of the question. I LIKE colourful eyeshadow but the good ones are always expensive and I’m apprehensive towards paying loads of money for something I wouldn’t be able to wear all the time (colourful eyeshadows at the drugstore are usually crappy and too wishy-washy). HOWEVER, I’ve found a way to ease myself into a more wearable method of wearing colour on my eyes: meet NYX Vivid Brights Liner.

Avene Gentle Milk Cleanser, ooh la la.

I’ve used Avene for a good two years now but I’ve only ever used their face spray and hydrating serum. Their face spray is still my HG when it comes to refreshing myself when I’m outdoors or to control the redness I have on certain areas of my face. So far they’ve been working wonderfully and so has the hydrating serum.

Lately, I’ve been investing a lot in makeup remover wipes. My favorite would still be Biore but I have been trying out a few other brands as well. Unfortunately, I now feel that with the amount of makeup I am constantly wearing for work, double cleansing doesn’t make my worries go away as much as it did before. I still go to bed thinking about clogged pores and trapped makeup on my skin.

Kylie Lipkit– The lipstick for thots!

Before we begin, please do not attack me for the title. I do not have anything against thots. I am a thot! If you’re curious to find out why I decided to give the Kylie Lip Kit this highly prestigious title, proceed to read the rest of my ramblings below.

Okay, before we REALLY begin, let me clarify: I know all the drama surrounding these lipsticks. The private labelling accusations, the poor customer service, etcetera etcetera. I LIVE for beauty industry gossip so yes I’m well aware of them. But I decided to give this product a try and give it as neutral a critique as possible.

In my last lipstick post, I’ve recommended different types of lipsticks from drugstore to Korean ones but this time around, my focus will be just drugstore brands and how you can choose some good ones, or how to make use of the not-so-great ones.

When it comes to lipstick, the first thing I would always look at is the color. Only after I’m attracted to the color would I then swatch the sample product on the back of my hand to see how pigmented the product is, and to check what kind of finish it has. Never would I ever put the sample on my own lips because that would be so disgusting. I know how some people actually wear all kinds of samples at Sephora but how do you do this?

Minimalist Skincare Routine For Beginners

While elaborate makeup routines are becoming more and more popular, I realise that a lot of girls are still apprehensive about skincare. This is totally understandable, as skincare is seen as a more ‘serious’ thing than makeup— getting the wrong skincare can totally mess up your skin, while the wrong makeup can easily be washed off— plus, when beauty websites (including this one, guilty as charged) rave about long, overblown 10-step skincare routines, the skincare beginner may be intimidated from using any skincare at all.

So today I’m bringing you an article about building a simple, minimalist routine for the skincare beginner— inspired by when a friend of mine asked if she should use moisturiser or not. First disclaimer: obviously I am not a skincare expert. I’m not a dermatologist! What I know is all a result of reading up on the internet and my own experience of battling acne, but I’m not a professional and my advice is meant to be just that: advice. Therefore, I’ll be keeping the recommendations today as gentle as possible, applicable for someone who doesn’t suffer very serious skin problems. Secondly, yes my definition of ‘minimalist’ may not be the same as yours. I’m using it to mean as minimalist as a skincare routine can get, but in the end it will still be a routine with more than one step. If you want ‘minimalist’ by the purest of definitions— then just use one step. Also, just like in my Makeup Shopping for Beginners guide, I’ll be keeping the suggestions focused on drugstore since I imagine beginners are not looking to splurge just yet.

Lush wasn’t so luscious to me.

I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my life that I wish I could erase completely from my personal history book, and there are some mistakes that I could forgive myself for – and some that I couldn’t. The most recent mistake that I made, a purchase that should have never happened was me giving in to Lush when I was in the UK. I think this entry is going to be the most angry My Passport Stamp that I’ve ever written.

Lush is undeniably popular, I mean people rave about the brand all the time. On blogs, on Youtube, on Instagram….everywhere! For some reason, I’ve never been tempted enough to get some for myself when travelling outside of Malaysia over the last couple of years. But for no concrete reason at all, I found myself handing over British Pounds to the Lush salesgirl at Westfield Mall!

Four Favourite Nudes

I don’t like beige lips. I don’t like light beige, or dark beige. I don’t like brown beige nor pink beige. I don’t like it with eggs. I don’t like it with ham. I don’t like it with spam. Sam I am.

But then EVERY DAY that goes by where people go mad over some variation of a beige/greige nude– usually matte– and I can only react like “oh that wouldn’t look good on me”, I die a little more inside (I’m on life support, at this point). See, my defiance towards straight-up unapologetically nude lips is not out of some middle school desire to be against the mainstream or whatever. It just doesn’t look good on me! I wish it did. I want to be one of those bronzy girls who can wear, like, bronzer and mascara and Kat Von D Bow and Arrow and look great. But no. I’ll just look sick.

Nevertheless, my good sis wears a lot of those kinds of lipsticks (she’s a typical millenial: influenced by Kylie, wears brown liquid lipstick, etc) so I decided to ask her about what she thinks are the best nude lipsticks around. Continue reading “Four Favourite Nudes” →

Pretty. Odd

A friend of mine (he’s a boy) has been telling me about a brand called Pretty Suci and how interesting it is. It claims to be halal and wudhu friendly, which you can check out more of on their website here. Perfect for anyone who doesn’t need the hassle of wondering whether or not their makeup is in the way when performing solat.

Since we here at MyLS are all about supporting local brands, I thought I’d give Pretty Suci a try. And did my friend come through or what– he got me this huge, pretty pink box just FULL of Pretty Suci lipsticks. As you can see, the presentation of the brand is A+.

My Passport Stamp: London, England

A couple of days ago I landed back in Kuala Lumpur after a week of touring the United Kingdom. I would’ve stayed there slightly longer than a week but because of work commitment, I spent a good seven nights there – which isn’t bad at all!

This isn’t my first time in the UK – but this one’s a trip I’d never forget. We were supposed to go to Paris, France as well but because of the recent bombings, at the end of the day all of us decided against it. So Wales became our second destination next to England.

The trip was well – shopping, halal food hunting….you know the usual. But as a hardcore makeup lover, I allocated a certain amount of money to dedicate to the thing that I love the most – makeup!

Unlike circle lenses, I don’t regret buying the Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner.

Dolly Wink is a brand that I associate with my embarrassing circle lens phase. Now, I have been through at least fifty embarrassing ‘phases’ throughout my life but the stage of my life where I wore colourful circle lenses is the one that makes me cringe the most (and that is A LOT coming from someone who went through a ‘socialist’ phase… heavy emphasis on the quotation marks). I had these green ones that I wore ALL THE TIME, thinking I was hot shit. Unfortunately for me my roommate wore them as well so I didn’t have anyone to tell me how dumb I looked. We used to sit around circlejerking about how GREAT circle lenses are, and how ugly our natural eyes looked without them.

Anywho, Dolly Wink came to Malaysia around that time. Actually, there was a whole flurry of Japanese brands landing on our shores at the time. A lot of them (like Candy Doll, which to me always came off like Dolly Wink’s hick cousin) appear to have been discontinued tho. But Dolly Wink has stuck around! And so, years after I got over my eye infection-inducing Japanese phase, I decided to give Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner a try.
